I offer my two cents worth: Mr. Rafsanjani wants in The Private Credit Monopoly, aka the IMF/World Bank. As you know, only the "approved" powers get to play and profit in this exculsive organization -- anyone who's been able to make their "democratic" country their personal possession for all practical purposes, gets a place at the poker table. Mr. Rafsanjani wants in and the good ol' boys want to ensure he doesn't have the power to muscle his way in there.
